Quantum Teacups

Jean-François Podevin 2020: "Quantum Teacups"

Making sense of quantum mechanics is like plunging into a carrollian world of Cheshire cats and Alice's mad tea parties, a world that gets "curiouser and curiouser".

I created this metaphorical representation of a two in one cup of tea absurdly pouring itself in and out simultaneously to illustrate quantum entanglement which Albert Einstein also called: "the spooky action at a distance."

This image is part of a series I painted for Catherine Zandonella of Princeton University Annual Research magazine for a cover story on quantum computers.

This painting will also to be one of two 12ft mural panel I was commissioned for decorating the upcoming Princeton University "Gravity Initiative" center.
