Today, the print media has found its reflection mirrored on the Internet.
Artistic print layouts of the past were for a time difficult to emulate.
Now the sophistication achieved in web design has given parity and a sense of continuity between both media.
One of the positive outcomes is that what is a still image in print has become a moving image in the form of GIF files on the Internet. Many of the greats of print as well as web publishing have made way for embedded video files.
As a result, I have little by little brought motion to my still images.

Existence showcases the worlds of three artists who document their personal existence through their art practice. All three artists are prolific, processing their lives through their sketchbooks and journals, drawings, paintings, collage and sculpture, but each expresses their experience in their own way. JF Podevin creates interactive machines, maps and serial recordings of the world around him. Greg S. Gilday depicts vehicles that act out personal relationships, stories and dreams. The late Janice Lowry used found and invented imagery and objects to tell her life’s story, documenting everything from motherhood and medical concerns to her emotions and personal philosophy. As they have lived their life’s journeys, each of these artists has left us a recording of their physical world, and shared the inner worlds of their hearts and minds.

Composite Memories Opens November 18
SAN LUIS OBISPO – Cuesta College is delighted to present Composite Memories, a contemporary installation featuring the works of artist Jean-Francois Podevin. The show opens at the Cuesta College Art Gallery on Thursday, November 18 with an artist talk at 3:30 p.m. and artist reception from 4:30 until 7 p.m. The exhibition continues through December 16 so that area art lovers will have ample opportunity to enjoy Podevin’s interactive sculptural machines. The Art Gallery is open Monday through Friday, from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Jean-Francois Podevin’s latest installation, Composite Memories, explores the concept of machine as metaphor for human perception. Just as the mind is highly subjective, selecting images and memories that seem relevant, so do Podevin’s Stochasticons (“display contraptions”). The series of seven free-standing machines are reminiscent of old postcard dispensers. Each machine measures over six feet tall and nearly four feet wide, with four canvas belts that contain multiple images. Disc-shaped handles allow the viewer to change the combination of images to produce a wide variety of narratives and connections. To emphasize that luck and serendipity often play a role in how we remember, the display will be rearranged each week into different configurations.
Podevin is an illustrator, graphic designer, and conceptual artist who grew up in France and now lives in California. His work spans over 25 years and includes clients such as the New York Times, Coca Cola, Geffen Records, and Scientific American. Further evidence of
